Now that you have decided why you want a garden, let’s talk about how to get started. A gardener never stops learning and though it’s easy to become overwhelmed in the beginning, but we all have to start somewhere. Don’t worry about failing at this point; the biggest mistake you will make is NOT starting!
Before we continue this new series, Nutrients in the Garden, I’d like to take a moment to explain why I am so passionate about gardening.
This fun bracelet activity is a great way to introduce the three essential plant nutrients: nitrogen (N), phosphate (P) and potassium (K). As students put the various beads together on the bracelet, they will have a better understanding of what plants need to grow.

Boots, gloves, and thinking about gardening have kept me warm this artic winter! I am ready to trade it all in for mud boots, garden gloves, and the soft earth below my feet. In the meantime, we can start planning the garden. It’s not too early!

I learned so much about gardening this past year; perhaps, my thumb turned a darker shade of green. However, I know that no two garden seasons are the same; the weather and seasons will continue to put my gardening skills to the test, which is part of the reason I like gardening.
